Because your story matters.

Over the last twelve years of working in Midwifery, I’ve encountered many stories. Ones of triumph, ones of struggle. Stories of joy, hope, pain, loss and even the deepest of traumas.

It was my exposure to these stories as I walked with women during pregnancy, as well as healing from my own trauma history, that drove me to pursue continuing education in Perinatal Mental Health and Trauma Informed Care.

The stories we live, and especially the ones we overcome, deserve to be told.

Along the way, I’ve met many women who have never been given the chance to healthfully process their experiences and find themselves still struggling with lingering emotions for years afterwards.

It’s for this reason I’m now offering private, one on one sessions to make sure every woman has the opportunity to feel seen, heard and empowered.

Let’s Grab Coffee!

Birth Story Processing

  • Birth is raw and very real. While many births proceed uneventfully, there are also those where scary, unexpected or even traumatic things happen.

Those unprocessed experiences can lead to negative self-talk, fear, anxiety and more. Trauma “stunts” our continued emotional and psychological growth, and eventually the body starts to tell the story that our voice has been unable to.

This can be true for the mother herself, her partner, healthcare providers or any others who may have witnessed the birth.

Whether it’s been 6 weeks or 7 years…everyone deserves an opportunity to be heard so that they can move forward empowered and free.

  • This is a great question!

I’ll be a pro-therapy advocate till the end of my days! (You can catch me in my own session every other Tuesday!)

Your therapist is focused on long-term processing of your past experiences and is specifically trained to address mental health needs.

In Birth Story Sessions, you are telling your story to a listener who has specific expertise in birth and postpartum care. You won’t need to explain the birth process to me, and instead can focus on the events as you experienced them.

Most clients find that 1-2 story sessions are enough. Sometimes we discover that therapy is the necessary next step in the healing process. If so, I can also help connect you with therapists in your area who have special training in caring for perinatal women.

Birth Story Sessions do not take the place of visits with your healthcare provider or a Licensed Counselor. No clinical care or advice will be given.

Postpartum Planning Session

  • We spend months focusing on prenatal care and preparing for baby. (rightfully so!) And yet, we spend very little time talking to women about recovering after childbirth.

Our culture sets the expectation for women to just jump back into life after birth with little regard to healing her body.

What does this oversight cost us? What are the consequences when women don't rest postpartum?

    • increase incidences of postpartum mood disorders such as depression and anxiety

    • prolonged postpartum bleeding which can contribute to anemia and fatigue

    • struggles with breastfeeding

    • interruptions in bonding

In our own midwifery practice, we can often link many of the complications in the postpartum period to women not getting the recovery time they need.

It's not always because mama refuses to stay in bed. Some women simply don't have the luxury. They may lack community that can provide in-home support, have several other children to care for, or they may need to return work due to inadequate maternity leave in the U.S. (Yeah, don't get me started.)

Other women, and their families, simply aren't aware of the why behind recommendations for rest.

It’s no wonder that 1 in 5-7 women suffer from a Perinatal Mood Disorder. This could be prenatal or postpartum depression, anxiety, OCD or psychosis.

Over the last year, I’ve released a book called Your Postpartum Guide with the hopes to reach as many families as possible and help them navigate the Postpartum Period in the best ways possible.

Although I'd like to, I know I can't simply solve all of these problems in the book.

What I hope to do however is to offer you a place to educate yourself, identify your needs, and map out a postpartum support plan that fits the realities of your lifestyle.

While most people find that the book itself is enough of a guide to get them started on their postpartum planning journey, others have occasionally wished for an opportunity to talk through their history, ask some questions, and get some one on one feedback.

It’s that wish that’s led us here.

  • Included in your 60 minute one on one session, we can talk about whatever you’d like!

    We’ll cover:

    • What to expect physically and emotionally during recovery

    • Your postpartum history & potential risk factors for mood disorders

    • Review questions that will get you thinking about your needs and the best ways to communicate those needs.

This session will encourage you to set healthy boundaries & practice self care. And my hope, is that by the end you've got a helpful little plan going.

A plan for rest, for healing, for feeding your baby & rallying your people.
