Labor Preparation Resources

Labor is, of course, the hardest thing that any woman will ever do. It will challenge you in new ways — ways you haven't necessarily been challenged before. It might seem early in your pregnancy to be talking about this, but now is exactly when you need to begin preparing for this big thing you're embarking on together. That preparation is your job — and it starts today.

Birth is hard work, and we would be lying to you if we said it wasn't. As first-time parents especially, you can expect labor to be hard. You will hit a point where you feel like “I can't do this” — a wall you feel like you can't scale. And it is getting to the other side of that, moving through that moment, that becomes truly empowering. You learn how strong you really are. Labor is meant to be empowering — but that empowerment cannot be given to you by your provider. It has to be claimed by you. It is about you finding strength within yourself, learning to trust and tap into your body's wisdom, your own intuition, and allowing your body to work as it was created to. We will be there to keep you and your baby safe. But the work of labor — the getting through it — that belongs to you.

It is not safe to remain sedentary, not mentally prepare, AND plan an out of hospital birth. Birth is beautiful but also hard work. Preparing in advance makes all the difference.
